Usually known more for his musical escapades, Andrew Hendy of the Mary Wallopers was caught on camera recently doing something a little out of the ordinary… Andrew was on Blackrock beach to paddleboard with photographer friend, Sean Mc Mahon, when the pair were approached by a woman in distress. She explained to the men that she had came across two trapped dolphins.

High tide from the previous night had left the animals stuck. The men leaped in to action and phoned the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group, who were able to best advise on this emergency situation. The woman on the other end of the phone explained how to avoid damaging their fins, and ways in which the lads could try calm them down in general.

Other locals soon ran to their aid, providing water and towels and working together to follow instructions. Gardaí arrived on the scene shortly after, followed by the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group, as well as members from Dundalk Sub Aqua Search and Rescue

It’s safe to safe that it was a lucky day for this dolphin duo! And a wholesome story overall, captured by Sean Mc Mahon’s camera work. Watch in detail below.
