Community Comes Together For Kofi’s Family

The greater Louth and Meath area have came together to pay their respects after the tragic passing of young Kofi Owusu. The teenager from the Dundalk area, drowned in a swimming accident recently in Laytown as he was socialising with friends at a popular swimming spot.


Redeemer Celtic announced that they were fundraising for Kofi’s family, in the hope of easing some financial burden while they grieve. The GoFundMe was heavily supported by those that knew the you g man and those who had never met, already reaching over €10,000.


Many of his young friends remembered him fondly on apps such as TikTok. Mourners feel in shock to have lost such a bright light, and “kind and caring” soul in their lives.


Meanwhile Dundalk TD Ruairí Ó Murchú said he wanted to pay tribute to the student, "Our condolences go out to his family and friends and to the wider community. We have all heard the tributes from Redeemer Celtic and in particular from Tomas Sharkey from Coláiste Chú Chulainn, the school he attended.

"We have heard of Kofi’s diligence, his leadership qualities and his friendship. A huge hole has been left. He was a spectacular footballer and basketballer. He was an all-round really, really good kid.” Following his talk in the Dáil, the Taoiseach added: "I join with you in offer sympathy to Kofi’s family and it is heartbreaking that any young person so talented and with so much to offer in life should die in such circumstances.”


Service details of his funeral have been announced on Rip.ie, and will take place at The Redeemer Christian Church of God, Miracle Land, Castletown Road, Dundalk (A91 E397) on Friday, June 27th at 1pm.


Immediately afterwards, the congregation will gather at the Eternity Room of Quinn’s Funeral Homes for the removal, proceeding on foot to St. Patrick’s Cemetery (Eircode A91 F598) for burial.
