A suspected pipe bomb was ignited early Sunday morning, June 20th, in the Tierney Street area of the town.

Locals reported hearing an explosion and seeing smoke around 5AM, in the quiet estate of Cúirt na hAbhann.

One local believes a car outside a residential premises was ignited. Last October the same small estate had been targeted in a similar attack. On that occasion a front porch was set alight by the pipe bomb. No casualties have been reported in either incident.

This recent attack comes off the back of Gardaí seizing twenty similar devices only a month ago, behind a house in the Ferdia Park estate. At the time Gardaí linked that discovery to Drogheda drug gangs.
