Yesterday, September 10th 2024, the news broke of the passing of well-known local Ardee resident and publican, Benny Anderson.

Those of us of a certain age will remember him as a friendly, caring and sociable businessman, who ran his premises as if it was a home – And indeed, it was.

The establishment hasn’t been open in recent years, and even before then it would never be known if you knocked on Benny’s door on Irish Street, would the business be operating that evening or not. And that was part of the pub’s charm. He was praised not only locally, but nationally too. A Google search will show up reviews from far and wide, many adoring the small town Irish charm of the building itself. A cosy fire place, nothing fancy, but like stepping back in time. And of course, those who were lucky enough to have a drink there felt very welcomed by their warm host.
